Men's Soccer Beats York 2-1 in Home Opener
Sep 10, 2005

The SUNY Old Westbury men’s soccer team kicked off the 2005 home slate in good fashion this afternoon, beating York College 2-1. With the win, the Panthers improve to 2-2 on the season.

Brandon DeNoyer tallied the game-winner for Old Westbury in the 84th minute of action. DeNoyer and Ian Ashton broke through the York defense, setting up a 2-on-1 with the keeper. Ashton dished a pass out to DeNoyer, who sent the ball past the keeper from five yards out to clinch the win for the Panthers.

Old Westbury initially got on the board at the end of the first half, as Shawn Holland tallied the game’s first goal with just 45 seconds remaining. Holland tapped in the rebound of a shot that had been blocked by a York defender to tally his third goal of the week and give Old Westbury a 1-0 advantage headed into the break.

York tied the game in the 83rd minute, as Dukens Riche beat Bryan Smith, who was making his debut in the net for Old Westbury. The game would only remain tied for one minute, as DeNoyer’s game-winning shot came exactly 60 seconds later.

The Panthers will return to action on Tuesday at Mount St. Vincent. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 pm.
