Rams Bully the Panthers

Old Westbury, NY- The Old Westbury Panthers were defeated on the soccer field today 3-0 after a late game surge by the Rams of Farmingdale State. Old Westbury fell to 3-8-2 overall and 0-4-2 in the Skyline.
In the First half the Panthers controlled the ball and the pace of play, out shooting the Rams 9-4 and having a 3-1 advantage on corner kicks. Just one minute into the game the Panthers Brandon Dinis put a header in the upper left hand corner that was punched away at the last second by Farmingdale goalie Joseph Caccavale. Old Westbury had 3 more great chances in the first half, but Farmingdale kept the score even at zero.
In the second half the two teams continued a midfield battle until the 77th minute when Carlos Proano put a cross into Old Westbury's six yard box and was put in the back of the net by Andrew Whilby. Less then a minute later on another attack for Farmingdale Old Westbury was called for a foul in the box giving the Rams a penalty kick. Whilby took the kick and cashed in with his second goal of the game. In the later minutes of the half Old Westbury continued to pressure Farmingdale with deep runs and dangerous crosses but could not connect. Whilby was once again able to burn the Panthers by slipping in past the defense and beating the goalie one on one to finish off and impressive hat trick.
Old Westbury looks to bounce back in a non conference game against Oneonta State. Kickoff is set for 3:30pm on October 18, 2006, at Panther Park.
