Panthers Get Caught in a Cyclone
October 28, 2006
Hackettstown, NJ- Earlier today the Old Westbury Men's Soccer season came to an end as they lost to Centenary College 3-1, helping the Cyclones earn their first ever qualification into the Skyline Conference playoffs. The win gives the Cyclones the #3 seed in this week's conference playoffs, a spot that hasn't been achieved since joining the Skyline four years ago.
Centenary wasted no time, as freshman Nelson Becerra assisted Kissinger Barreau lifting the Cyclones 1-0 in the second minute of play. Despite getting out shot in the first half 8-1, the score remained 1-0 into the halftime break.
The second half had a rough start to it as Kissinger Barreau recorded his second goal of the game, on an assist from Josh Spivack. It wasn't until the 66th minute when the Panthers were able to strike as they cut the lead in half, when Felipe Cavalcanti scored off a deflection from the Centenary goalie.
The Cyclones later scored as freshman Chris Guadagno received a header from Nelson Becerra marking his second assist of the game. The Panthers refused to give up when John Senatore scored on an assist by Shawn Holland cutting the Centenary lead, resulting in a 3-2 final.
This was a tough season for the program and will look to turn
the page towards the 2007 season, where the underclassmen become
upperclassmen and the new recruits will develop as the
team creates a winning formula.
