Old Westbury and Maritime play to 1-1 tie

Old Westbury, NY-Despite 45 combined shots the Old Westbury panthers and SUNY Maritime played to a defensive 1-1 tie. Old Westbury opened the scoring in the 13 minute, off John Senatore's right foot. Two beautiful passes started by James Giacopelli, and one touched by Felipe Cavalcanti led Senatore to beat starting goalie Matt Kavanaugh one on one.
Maritime charged back and scored the game tying goal in the 31st minute. Mayer Nelson led the charge earning a corner kick after rocketing a shot to the upper left corner forcing Panthers goalie Brian Hicks to make a beautiful diving save. Nelson then took the corner kick that led to teammate Memet Alkon's first goal of the season.
Old Westbury had a scoring chance at the very end of each of the four periods, forcing Kavanagh to make a sprawling save at the end of the first overtime to keep Maritime in the game. Kavanaghs counter part Brian Hicks made two tremendous saves, one off a header in the 87th minute, the other in the 96th minute shutting down the Maritime offense.
Old Westbury is now 1-4-1 overall and 0-0-1 in skyline play, while Maritime is 0-0-1 overall and in the skyline conference. Old Westbury returns to action next Saturday September 23rd as the travel to Purchase, NY to face off against Manhattanville college in a Skyline contest.
