Men's Soccer Snaps Losing Streak, Beats York 6-1
Sep 10, 2006

The Old Westbury men's soccer team went 1-1 in non-conference action at Mt. St. Mary this weekend. The Panthers fell 3-1 to Medgar Evers in the opening game, before bouncing back to beat York 6-1 for their first win of the season.

In game one, Medgar Evers scored the go-ahead goal early, as Lerone McIntosh and Darren Richards connected at the 6:57 mark. Shawn Holland knotted the game at one, scoring off of an assist by John Senatore in the 65th minute, but Medgar Evers' game-winner came six minutes later. The Cougars added an insurance goal late, benefiting from a Panther defensive miscue in the backfield.

On Sunday, Old Westbury regrouped and tallied three first half goals en route to a 6-1 win over York, which snapped a season-long four game losing streak.

Senatore and Holland connected once again, this time in reverse, to score the game's first goal, just eight minutes in, to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, Alex Renwart tallied the would-be game-winner, scoring on a Senatore rebound.

Senatore was in the mix again on the next play, this time stealing the ball from the York keeper and converting the shot for a 3-0 lead. Holland converted another Senatore pass early in the second half, making it a 4-0 game.

York's lone goal came after the team was awarded a penalty kick, which Lenroy Brown converted at the 56:57 mark, but was quickly answered with another goal by Holland, who worked solo this time. Tom Cully scored Old Westbury's final goal at the 81:22 mark, for the 6-1 final.

The Panthers will host Skyline foe Maritime in the home opener on Saturday, September 16. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
