Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) tallied two goals in each half to defeat Old Westbury, 4-0, in the final game of the Third Annual Red Hawk Classic hosted by Rensselaer at Harkness Field. With the victory, the Red Hawks improve to 2-0-0, while Old Westbury falls to 0-2-0.
Rensselaer got on the board early in the first half, after senior Dave Roberge picked up a loose ball and lobbed a shot into the lower corner of the net past a diving Brian Hicks at just the 5:18 mark. Freshman Jabel Prom doubled the Rensselaer score 20 minutes later off a Panthers deflection into the top left corner of the net.
In the second half, the Red Hawks jumped out to a three-goal lead on a tally by freshman Lincoln Field. Positioned outside the 18-yard box, he turned and scored off a pass from classmate Sean Fleury at the 54:45 mark.
Sophomore Mike Henzel scored RPI's fourth goal late in the game, knocking in his own rebound with three minutes remaining.
John Senatore put two shots on goal for the Panthers, while Felipe Cavalcanti and Shawn Holland had one a piece in the loss.
Thibdeau made five saves to earn the win for Rensselaer while Brian Hicks stopped 11 in the loss for the Panthers.
