Al Lockhart and Nick Gkionis combined for four goals as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team defeated Old Westbury, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon at DeBaun Field. With the win, the Ducks improved to 9-0-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference, while the Panthers dropped to 3-5-2 overall and 0-1-2 in the league.
Just over four minutes into the game, Stevens midfielder Craig Moquin placed a corner kick into the goal mouth, finding Gkionis, who put it home for the early 1-0 lead. Eight minutes later, Lockhart tallied the first of his two goals for the would-be game-winner.
Gkionis earned his second tally of the day off a penalty kick at the 18:48 mark and Lockhart added his second goal of the day on a pass from Mike Carns, giving Stevens a comfortable 4-0 lead at halftime.
Sophomore forward Jeremy Lippel opened up the second half with a goal 3:52 in off a breakaway. Senior midfielder George Gkionis rounded out the scoring for Stevens in the 49th minute of action, putting the Ducks up 6-0.
Old Westbury's tally came in the form of an own goal by Stevens with less than five minutes remaining in the game.
Brian Hicks tallied six saves in the net for the Panthers, who were outshot 24-7.
Old Westbury will return to action on October 4 when it hosts USMMA in Skyline action.
