SALISBURY, MD.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Men's Soccer team was unable to overcome an early five goal deficit in the first half to Salisbury University as their season concluded with an opening round loss in the NCAA Championship Tournament, 10-0. Old Westbury made its first NCAA tournament appearance in school history as it won the Skyline Conference Championship for the first-time ever, concluding the season with a 12-4-1 record.
Panther goalkeeper Brandon DeNoyer totaled a game high six saves while Alexander Renwart anchored the defense with his physical play. Old Westbury was unable to keep up with the high pace Sea Gull offense as Kyle Sterling of Salisbury University posted three goals while Andrew Henciak dished out three assists. Seven different players on Salisbury University netted goals en route to a 10-0 win, that tied a 37 year old Division III Tournament record for most goals scored in one game set by Westfield State, who scored 10 against Coast Guard in 1974.
Salisbury University is making their seventh tournament appearance and is now 16-4-1 to move on to face Virginia Wesleyan College in the second round of the NCAA Championship Tournament.
The Panthers conclude the 2007 season claiming their first Skyline Conference Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. Seven outstanding seniors (Alexander Renwart, Brandon DeNoyer, Brian Hicks, Sandro Chiarlitti, Shawn Holland, Alejandro Galvez, Divine Jackson) will be remembered for paving the way as Old Westbury will look to build on that success in the 2008 campaign.
