MEN'S SOCCER EDGED BY ST. JOSEPH'S-L.I., 3-2

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team lost a tough match by the score of 3-2 to Skyline Conference rival St. Joseph's College-L.I. at Panther Park on Saturday afternoon. The loss dropped the Panthers record to 4-7 overall and 2-3 in the Skyline Conference while the Golden Eagles improved to 6-6-2 overall and 5-0-1 in league play.   

In a rematch of the 2007 Skyline Conference Championship, the Panthers took a quick 1-0 lead at the 2:33 mark when sophomore Justin Leakey (Baldwin, N.Y.) scored his fifth goal of the season off an assist from freshman Timothy Munzing (Oceanside, N.Y.)  St. Joseph's-L.I. responded with a Julian Barreiros goal off a pass by teammate Michael Rugen to knot the game at 1-1 at the 6:50 mark.  Frank Mancuso upped the St. Joseph's-L.I. advantage to 2-1 when he scored on a feed from Greg Apicella at the 53rd minute.  Old Westbury answered in the 70th minute when junior Fabian Santibanez (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) slotted a free kick to sophomore Daniel Lepe (Hempstead, N.Y.) to send a laser to the back of the net to tie the game at 2-2.  St. Joseph's-L.I. secured victory at the 71:25 mark with Kamil Sadowski assisting on a goal by Scott Reduto to pull ahead 3-2 over the Panthers. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Darian Bryan (Elmont, N.Y.) recorded 13 saves and allowed three goals in 90 minutes while Mike Dougherty was in goal for St. Joseph's-L.I., totaling eight saves to contribute to the victory.    After edging the Panthers in the first half, 12-7 the Golden Eagles outshot Old Westbury in the second half, 11-7 to take a 23-14 advantage in the shot department.  The Golden Eagles held a slim 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
