MEN'S SOCCER GARNERS CONFERENCE WEEKLY HONORS

OCTOBER 27, 2008

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury sophomore Justin Leakey (Baldwin, N.Y.) garnered a major award this week when he was named on Monday as the Skyline Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week. Sophomore Darian Bryan (Elmont, N.Y.) and freshman Timothy Munzing (Oceanside, N.Y.) were named to the Weekly Honor Roll.

Leakey earned his award after scoring three goals in a 2-0 week for the Panthers.  Leakey scored two goals in a 3-1 win over SUNY Maritime on Thursday and netted another goal in Old Westbury's 2-0 shutout of Farmingdale State last Saturday afternoon.  On the season, Leakey ranks in the top five in the conference in both goals and assists per game.  Leakey's eight goals calculates to a .73 goals per game average (4th in Skyline Conference) while his four assists give him an average of .36 assists per game (4th in Skyline Conference).

Darian Bryan compiled his second shutout of the season with a nine save performance against Farmingdale State after making eight saves in a win over SUNY Maritime.  Bryan made 17 saves this past week and averages 7.31 per game for a save percentage of .779 (6th in Skyline Conference).  Timothy Munzing received his first conference award after scoring the eventual game winner against SUNY Maritime to net his second goal of the season.

The Green and Ivory will return to action on Wednesday, October 29th to welcome conference foe, Mount Saint Vincent College to Panther Park.  A special Senior Night presentation will take place to honor Ragi Burton, Tom Cully, Alishan Halajian, Jorge Roman and John Senatore before the 4:00 p.m. kickoff.  Please visit www.oldwestburypanthers.com for more information on men's soccer or any of the other Panther athletic teams.
