Softball Splits with Centenary
Apr 27, 2006

The Old Westbury Panthers split this afternoon's Skyline Conference doubleheader with Centenary, falling 5-7 in game one, before bouncing back for a 5-4 win in game two.

After two scoreless innings in game one, the Panthers took an early 1-0 lead when Shanelle Brown hit an RBI single. The Lady Cyclones tied it up in the bottom half of the same inning, as Lauren Cassoff provided an RBI triple for Centenary.

Kelly Fegan scored in the fourth to put Old Westbury back up by one, but Centenary answered again, this time plating five runs off of four hits. The Panthers rallied back late in the game, knocking in three runs on a Traci Weeks triple and a double by Nihal Boz, but the Old Westbury couldn't close the gap.

Centenary took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning of game two. Lindsey Amato hit an RBI single in the top of the next frame, before Old Westbury did its major damage in the fifth.

Brown once again connected for the Panthers, driving in two runs with a single to right field and Katora Russell, Amato and Jen Ragone each participated in the Panthers rally, that left them ahead 5-2 by innings end.

The Lady Cyclones got back two runs, but the Panthers held on for the 5-4 finish.

Amato went the distance in both games for the Panthers, striking out nine batters.

Old Westbury returns to action on Saturday when it hosts a Skyline Conference make-up doubleheader against Mt. St. Vincent.
