The Old Westbury and Farmingdale State softball teams split today's Skyline conference doubleheader, with the Panthers picking up game one 2-1 and the Rams bouncing back for a 6-2 win the second game. Old Westbury improves to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in the league, while Farmingdale State moves to 6-10 and 4-5 in the conference.
Lindsay Amato pitched five scoreless innings for the Panthers in game one, picking up her fifth win of the season. Katora Russell's RBI single in the fourth inning scored Sheyra Veras, who had reached with a triple, for the game's first run.
Nihal Boz recorded the game-winning RBI in the fifth inning, driving home Elizabeth Weickum with a double. Farmingdale State rallied in the sixth, as Devan Weber led off the inning with a bunt single and would go on to score off a single by Gina Moscato.
The Panthers pulled out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning after a walk with bases loaded scored a run. Farmingdale bounced back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs on a single by Tiffany deBeaumont.
Moscato reached base on an error to open the Rams' fourth inning and would later come around to score the game-winning run on a single by Jaclyn Buckshaw. Farmingdale State added three runs in the sixth.
Jennifer Ragone doubled for the Panthers in the seventh, scoring Nihal Boz, but Old Westbury would not be able to close the gap.
Lindsay Amato suffered the loss, giving up three earned runs on six hits while striking out six.
Old Westbury returns to action on Sunday when it hosts Manhattanville at noon.
