CANINO NAMED SKYLINE CONFERENCE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Softball team were honored today as freshman Maria Canino (Huntington, N.Y.) was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week.

The freshman shortstop continues to display impressive power in her first season. Canino batted .636 with a double, triple, three home runs and 12 runs batted in as the Panthers went 3-1 this past week. In a Skyline Conference double-header with Purchase College, she clubbed two home runs and drove in seven Panthers. Canino also went 5-for-8 with five runs batted in against St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn.

On the season, Canino is hitting for an average of .405. Canino leads the squad in a handful of categories, with six home runs, 25 runs batted in (1^st in Skyline Conference), three triples (T-1^st in Skyline Conference), 18 runs (3^rd in Skyline Conference), 17 hits and a 1.048 slugging percentage (1^st in Skyline Conference).

Old Westbury (7-7, 1-3) returns to the diamond on Wednesday, April 9^th to host non-conference opponent, Briarcliffe College for a double-header.
