The Old Westbury women's basketball team closed out the regular season and celebrated Senior Night with a 64-29 win over Polytech. With the win, the Panthers improve to 14-8 overall and set a new program record for the most wins in a season.
The Panthers posted two double-doubles, as senior Rachel Yambaye notched her seventh of the year with a team-high 13 points and 11 rebounds and Danna Purnell chipped in 12 points and matched her season-high of 10 boards.
Old Westbury led by as many as 42 in the second half, taking that advantage after a 17-0. Yambaye's jumper kicked off the streak, which was capped by a Purnell lay-up and lasted nearly seven minutes.
Kristen Partch's jumper with 4:56 remaining made the score 62-29, the closest the Blue Jays would come.
Old Westbury opened the game with a 12-0 run, before Polytech tallied its first two points of the game on a jumper by Sarah Walter with 14:21 remaining. The Panthers extended their run, taking their largest lead of the half, a 27-point lead, on a three by Leah Hernandez with 3:29 remaining in the first.
Jennifer Hoyt added 11 points off the bench for Old Westbury. Walter finished with a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double for Polytech. Partch added eight, while Jacky Calandriello added five blocks and four steals on the defensive end for the Blue Jays.
