The Old Westbury women and men's basketball teams swept a Skyline Conference doubleheader this afternoon against Centenary. In the day's first game, the Panthers' women's team won a come-from-behind match-up 59-49, while the Old Westbury men dominated in a 102-75 victory in game two.
Monique Midy's 19-point, 16-rebound double-double guided the Old Westbury women to a 59-49 win over Centenary in Skyline Conference action. The Panthers improved to 11-8 overall and 5-5 in the league with the win.
After trailing by 10 at the break, Old Westbury accomplished a 20-point swing, outscoring Centenary 41-21 in the period to win by 10.
Leah Hernandez finished with 14 points and nine rebounds for Old Westbury. Centenary was led by Danielle Arndt's 13 points off the bench.
Led by five players in double figures, the Old Westbury men's basketball team picked up its second-straight Skyline Conference win, beating Centenary 102-75. The Panthers improve to 11-9 overall and 5-5 in the league, while the Cyclones fall to 2-18 overall and 0-12 on the season.
Michael Garrett shot 7-of-14 from the field, which included a 4-of-5 performance from beyond the three-point line, to finish with a game-high 22 points to lead Old Westbury. Divine Jackson added 16 points, while Derek DeLoney chipped in 15 and Darnell Mayers and Russell Brereton added 10 each to round out the Panthers in double figures.
As a team, Old Westbury had an impressive performance from the field, shooting 52% from the floor. Centenary shot 41% from the field, but struggled from long distance, hitting only 14% (4-of-28) of its attempts.
The Old Westbury women return to action on Wednesday at St. Joseph's. The men will travel to Kings Point to take on the Mariners on Tuesday.
