HOBOKEN, N.J.-The Old Westbury women's basketball team out-scored Stevens Institute of Technology 26-23 in the second half, but could not overcome a 14 point half-time deficit falling to the Ducks, 58-47.
Monique Midy led the way for the Panthers with 12 points. Midy, the only Panther to reach double-digits added a game-high 5 steals to go along with 3 rebounds and 1 block to her performance. Ashawn Ferguson pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds (6 offensive) and added 5 points, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Danna Purnell contributed 8 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 block and 1 steal. Janera Johnson and Jessica Lippolis came off the bench and added 7 points apiece. Lippolis shot 2-of-3 from downtown and recorded 1 steal in 6 minutes.
Stevens was led by Dani Dudek and Brittany Fuller, who scored 14 points apiece. Fuller finished with 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Dudek added 6 assists. Sarah Gehring tallied 12 rebounds, 7 points and 1 block. Jean Matusiak contributed 10 rebounds, 9 points, 4 assists, 2 steals and 1 block. Dora Enright was limited to only 13 minutes of action and scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.
The difference in this game was shot selection and Stevens held the advantage, converting 23-of-63 attempts (36.5 percent) from the field. Old Westbury shot 28.6 percent (16-of-56) from the field and was out-rebounded by 6, 45-39.
