PANTHERS DOWNED 71-36 TO MOUNT SAINT MARY

NEWBURGH, N.Y.-The Old Westbury women's basketball team could not handle first place Mount Saint Mary's in a conference match-up, losing 71-36 on the road. The win brings the Blue Knights their thirteenth strait win improving their record to 19-3 overall and 12-1 in the Skyline. Old Westbury falls to 10-11 overall and 4-10 in the Skyline.
The game was out of hand for the Panthers from the get-go trailing 12-0 to start the game and down 30-4 with six minutes remaining in the half. Old Westbury was held to 16.7 percent shooting (5-of-30) from the floor in the first half. The Blue Knights connected on 4-of-7 from three-point range and shot 45.7 percent from the field in the first-half. The Panthers had a 24 point half-time deficit, 36-12.
Danna Purnell led the way for the Panthers with 11 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 1 block. Ashawn Ferguson pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds (7 offensive) to go along with 8 points on 3-of-5 shooting and 2 steals. Liila Mack contributed 6 rebounds (3 offensive, 3 points, 1 block and 1 steal off the bench. Janera Johnson finished with 5 rebounds (3 offensive), 4 points, and 1 steal. Monique Midy added 5 rebounds.
All twelve Blue Knights scored in the rout over the Panthers Wednesday night. Chantel Anthony and Vanessa Lawson each added a game-high 13 points. Anthony connected on 3-of-6 three-pointers and dished out 4 assists, nabbed 3 steals and pulled down 3 rebounds. Lawson finished with 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Jackie Markert grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds to go along with 2 steals. LaSheena Brown poured in 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Shannon Sangster pulled down 7 rebounds and scored 4 points. Jessica Tice recorded 5 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals, Annie Cossolini added 9 points on 3-of-4 shooting from downtown, 8 assists (game-high) and 2 steals.
Old Westbury was out-rebounded by 1, 49-48. The Panthers pulled down 22 offensive rebounds compared to 16 from the Blue Knights. Old Westbury coughed up 25 turnovers and shot 20.6 percent (14-of-68) from the field for the game.
