OLD WESTBURY RETURNS TO WINNING WAYS AGAINST NEW ROCHELLE

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Women's Basketball team eclipsed the 80-point mark for the second time this season en route to snapping a four-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon.  The Panthers improved to 2-4 on the season with an 81-40 non-conference win over the College of New Rochelle on the campus of Sarah Lawrence College. 

Old Westbury jumped out to their largest lead in the first half when Pamela Robinson fed Shannon Gilly a lay-up, giving the Panthers a 43-16 advantage to close out the opening half.  The Green and White stretched their 27 point lead at the half to 43 points, 79-36 when Pamela Robinson sank a jumper with 3:33 remaining in the game.    

The Panthers shot 34-for-87 (39 percent) from the floor, including 12-for-14 from the charity stripe while limiting New Rochelle to 18-for-59 from the field.  Old Westbury's defensive attack tallied 29 steals and pressured New Rochelle into committing 49 turnovers.  New Rochelle was out-rebounded by two, 49-47, including 25 offensive boards by Old Westbury.    

Old Westbury posted four Panthers with double-doubles, led by newcomers Pamela Robinson, Sharifa Graham, Shameeka Bryan and Shannon Gilly.  Pamela Robinson poured in a game-high 29 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the floor to go along with 10 steals and six rebounds (5 offensive).  Sharifa Graham recorded 12 points, 12 rebounds (4 offensive), seven assists (game-high) and six steals while Shameka Bryan finished with 15 points, 10 steals and eight rebounds (4 offensive).  Shannon Gilly was strong off the bench, adding 11 points, 10 rebounds (5 offensive) and two steals.  Ashley Freeman chipped in with five assists.       

New Rochelle was led by Ruchelle Austin and Tiffany Mann.  Austin pulled down a game-high 27 rebounds (11 offensive) along with a team-high 27 points, five steals and two blocks.  Mann added 13 points, six rebounds and two steals.
