WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO MOUNT SAINT MARY

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Women's Basketball team lost a 61-46 decision to Skyline Conference opponent, Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center.  The loss moves Old Westbury to 6-10 on the season and 2-8 in league play while Mount Saint Mary improves their record to 16-2 overall and 10-1 in Skyline Conference action.

The Panthers got off to a sluggish start and fell behind 11-2 with 16:38 left in the opening half.  Old Westbury bounced back and closed the gap to an 18-14 deficit with 8:30 remaining.  However, Mount Saint Mary answered back with a 16-6 run to close out the first-half.  Mount Saint Mary stretched their 14 point half-time lead to as many as 19 in the second half, up 52-33 with 11:08 on the clock.  Old Westbury retaliated with a 9-2 run, bringing the Panthers within 12 points with 3:26 left in the game.  Mount Saint Mary responded by scoring seven of the final 11 points to conclude the game.    

Shameeka Bryan registered a double-double to lead the Panthers with 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field and 11 rebounds.  Ashley Freeman followed with 13 points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc.  Pamela Robinson grabbed five rebounds and dished out five assists and was held to 3-of-19 from the floor.  Shannon Gilly added six rebounds and four blocks while Shalyn Molnar chipped in with five boards.

Mount Saint Mary posted three players in double-digits, led by Vanessa Lawson's 17 points.  Lawson added 10 rebounds, five steals and three assists.  Jackie Markert finished with 14 points and 16 rebounds including 11 off the offensive glass.  Shannon Sangster added 10 points, nine rebounds and two blocks while Meridith Paggi had eight points and four assists.

Old Westbury knocked down 4-of-6 from three-point land and connected on 18-of-55 from the floor (32.7%) while Mount Saint Mary shot 28-of-80 (35%).  Mount Saint Mary forced Old Westbury into 18 turnovers including five by Shameeka Bryan.  The Panthers were out-rebounded 51-30, including 22-8 in the offensive rebound department.
