BROOKLYN, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old
Westbury Women's Basketball team were unable to hold onto a
12-point half-time lead on the road at Skyline Conference opponent
Polytechnic University on Saturday afternoon, losing 51-48.
The Panthers fall to 5-8 overall and 1-5 in league play while
Polytechnic University climbs to 3-7 on the season and 3-4 in
conference action.
The Panthers went into the half with a 12 point cushion, 34-22, on 14-of-37 shooting from the floor. Old Westbury was unable to maintain the lead as they were outscored 29-14 in the second half, due in part to 5-of-30 shooting from the field while Polytechnic University connected on 12-of-27 to pull away with the victory.
Pamela Robinson posted a double-double to lead the Panthers. Robinson finished with 21 points, 11 rebounds in addition to six assists and two steals. Shameeka Bryan and Shannon Gilly pulled down 11 boards and netted seven points each while Gilly nabbed two steals. Ashley Freeman chipped in with nine points and six rebounds.
Polytechnic University was led by Jackie Calandriello, who tallied a double-double, finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds to go along with four assist, two steals and one block. Polytechnic's Giovanna Theodule totaled 12 points, eights rebounds (5 offensive) while Kristen Partch added 11 points and eight points.
The Panthers were out-rebounded, 47-42, despite grabbing 12 boards off the offensive glass. The two teams combined for 29 turnovers, including 15 by Polytechnic University. For the game, Old Westbury shot 28.4 percent (19-for-67) from the floor and Polytechnic University sank 22-of-64 (34.4%).
