WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ROLLS PAST POLYTECHNIC, 72-62

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Women's Basketball team came away with a 72-62 decision over Skyline Conference opponent, Polytechnic University on Saturday afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center. Old Westbury improves to 8-13 overall and 3-11 in league play while Polytechnic falls to 7-14 on the season and 4-11 in conference action.
Old Westbury took control from the opening tip-off as the Panthers shot 12-of-27 (44.4%) in the opening-half while holding Polytechnic to 8-of-24 (33.3%) from the field. The Panthers held a seven point advantage at the half, up 33-26. Old Westbury connected on 5-of-10 from three-point land and out-scored Polytechnic 39-36 in the second-half en route to a 72-62 victory.
Pamela Robinson poured in a game-high 29 points to lead the Panthers to victory. Robinson knocked down 3-of-5 from three-point territory to go along with eight rebounds, five assists and one steal. Ashley Freeman followed with 15 points, seven assists (game-high) and two steals while Shannon Gilly added nine points, seven rebounds, three steals (game-high) and two blocks (game-high). Krystal Garner chipped in with seven points, eight rebounds and two steals. Shameeka Bryan had eight points, six rebounds and two steals.
Polytechnic was led by Consuelo Aranda's 23 points. Jackie Calandriello posted a double-double, finishing with 18 points and 18 rebounds while Shelby Lipka had nine points and 12 rebounds, including eight off the offensive glass.
Old Westbury was out-rebounded, 48-33, including 21-9 in the offensive rebound department. The Old Westbury defensive attack forced 26 turnovers and recorded 11 steals. Old Westbury shot 24-of-59 (39%) from the field and connected on 8-of-19 (42.1%) from beyond the arc
Old Westbury returns to action on Tuesday, February 12th at Skyline Conference opponent, Yeshiva University.
