OLD WESTBURY CAN'T OVERTAKE PURCHASE

PURCHASE, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Women's Basketball team was unable to come away with a Skyline Conference victory on the road Wednesday night, losing a 79-54 decision to Purchase College. Old Westbury is now 5-8 on the season and 1-6 in league play while Purchase moves to 8-6 overall and 5-2 in conference action.
The Green and Ivory were unable to overcome a sluggish start and were held to 7-of-31 shooting from the field in the first-half en route to trailing Purchase, 46-25 at half-time. Purchase capitalized on Old Westbury's cold shooting as Jessie Domes converted a four-point play to give her team their largest lead, 38-11 with 6:26 remaining in the first half. Old Westbury chipped away at the deficit in the second-half, cutting it down to 16 points but couldn't contain the outside shooting of Amanda Capone and Jessie Domes.
Pamela Robinson led the Panthers with a game-high 26 points including 9-for-10 from the charity stripe and three steals in 40 minutes of action. Shameeka Bryan, Shannon Gilly and Shalyn Molnar scored seven points apiece while Bryan added a team-high nine rebounds. Ashley Freeman chipped in with five points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
Purchase College registered a trio of double-digit scorers led by Jennifer Ciardulli's 20 points. Ciardulli connected on 9-of-13 from the floor to go along with seven rebounds and two steals. Amanda Capone (18 points) and Jessie Domes (14 points) combined for all seven of Purchase's triples in addition to eight rebounds and six assists, respectively. Upfront, Kernita Sylvester pulled down 11 rebounds while Liila Mack added 10 boards and eight points.
Purchase out-rebounded Old Westbury, 68-37, including 27-12 advantage off the offensive glass. OW finished the game shooting 16-for-63 (25.4%) while Purchase landed 31-of-82 (37.8%) from the floor. The two teams combined for 41 turnovers of which the Old Westbury defensive attack forced Purchase to cough up 25 giveaways.
