WOMEN'S HOOPS TOPS RUSSELL SAGE AT HOME, 69-65

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Women's Basketball team defeated Skyline Conference opponent, Russell Sage College at the Clark Athletic Center on Thursday night, 69-65.  The win snapped the Panthers four game skid and improves their record to 6-9 on the season and 2-7 in league play while Russell Sage falls to 5-11 overall and 4-6 in Skyline Conference action.

The Panthers jumped out to an early 14-5 lead with 13:21 and proceeded to stretch it to 22-11 with 9:24.  Russell Sage then chipped away at the lead mounting a 20-9 run to knot the game at 31-31 at the half way point.  The second half was a back and forth battle, with Old Westbury outscoring the Gators 38-34.  Late in the second half, Old Westbury took a 67-62 lead with: 29 seconds remaining when Pamela Robinson distributed one of her five helpers to Shalyn Molnar, who knocked down a baseline jumper.  Following the Molnar bucket, Lynsee Barnes misfired on a three attempt and sent Shameeka Bryan to the line, who knocked down 1-of-2.  Off the inbound, Russell Sage pushed the ball and Lynsee Barnes found Ashli Fragomeni, who launched up a three and nailed it with four seconds on the clock.  Shalyn Molnar was then fouled and iced the game by sinking 1-of-2 from the charity stripe, giving the Panthers a 69-65 win. 

Pamela Robinson poured in 29 points to lead the Panthers to victory. Robinson connected on 10-of-19 from the field in addition to nine pull-downs and five assists.  Ashley Freeman followed with 13 points, including four triples and three assists.  Shameeka Bryan added 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals while Shannon Gilly chipped in with nine points, nine rebounds and two blocks. 

Russell Sage was led by Ashli Fragomeni, who netted 29 points.  Fragomeni included three triples, five rebounds, five steals and two blocks.  Lynsee Barnes scored nine points and dished out a game-high six assists to go with two steals.  Tasha Coolidge and Amber Muir had eight points apiece.  

Old Westbury edged Russell Sage in the rebound department, 41-26 including 13 boards off the offensive glass.  The difference maker proved to be free-throws as Old Westbury connected on 16-of-23 chances and Russell Sage was held to 8-of-10.  The Panthers shot 24-of-58 (41.4%) from the field and Russell Sage landed 26-of-63 (41.3%).
