WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EARNS TRIP TO CONFERENCE TOURNEY WITH 57-52 WIN OVER RUSSELL SAGE

TROY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury
Women's Basketball team won a 57-52 decision at Skyline
Confernce opponent, Russell Sage College on Saturday
afternoon. The Panthers clinched the #6 seed in the upcoming
conference tournament with the win and are now 12-13 overall and
7-11 in league play while Russell Sage falls to 7-18 on the season
and 5-13 in conference action.
Old Westbury got off to a slow start, trailing 10-2 at the 14:49
mark. Pamela Robinson responded with three consecutive
field-goals to bring the Panthers within five points, 13-8 with
12:29 remaining in the opening half. Shameeka Bryan closed to
gap to one point, after sinking a pair of free-throws to conclude
the half, down 24-23. Old Westbury and Russell Sage battled
back and forth in the second-half until Ashley Freeman connected on
a three-pointer to give the Panthers a 32-31 lead. The
Panthers would not look back as they maintained control of the game
and out-scored Russell Sage, 34-28 in the second-half en route to a
57-52 conference victory.
Pamela Robinson poured in a game-high 31 points to lead the Panthers to victory. Robinson sank 8-of-11 from the charity stripe along with six rebounds, two steals and one block. Shameeka Bryan followed with nine points, nine rebounds and one steal while Ashley Freeman had eight points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Shannon Gilly chipped in with five points and eight rebounds as Krystal Garner pulled down seven rebounds.
Russell Sage posted a trio of Gators in the double-digit point column, led by Tasha Coolidge's 12 points. Coolidge added six rebounds, three steals and one block while Joahna Petralia recorded a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Lynsee Barnes rounded out the trio with 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Old Westbury forced Russell Sage into 15 turnovers while nabbing seven steals. Old Westbury and Russell Sage drew even in the rebound department, 49-49 despite being out-rebounded 21-18 off the offensive glass. The Panthers shot 30.6 percent from the field while Russell Sage was held to 25.8 percent.
Old Westbury will travel to Mount Saint Vincent for the opening round of the Skyline Conference Tournament on Tuesday, February 26th.
