PANTHERS CLAW THE CARDINALS, 65-53

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Women's Basketball team defeated the Cardinals of York College on Monday evening at the Clark Athletic Center, 65-53.  The Panthers improve to .500 on the season with a record of 5-5 while York College is now 4-10 overall. 

The Panthers went into the half trailing 31-23 in part to 28 percent shooting from the floor.  Old Westbury came out of half-time clicking on all-cylinders.  Pamela Robinson sank a jumper to give her team their first lead of the game, 39-38, with 11:27 remaining in the game and never looked back.  The Cardinals tied the game at 50 all when Niya Jarvis knocked down a jumper with 4:04 remaining.  The Panthers responded with a 15-3 run to close out the game to earn the victory. 

Skyline Conference Co-Player of the Week Pamela Robinson poured in a game-high 27 points to lead the Panthers to victory.  Robinson connected on 10-of-18 from the field to go along with six rebounds, two steals and one block.  Shalyn Molnar followed with 12 points, nine boards and one steal while Ashley Freeman finished with seven points, eight rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block.  Shameeka Bryan netted 11 points, pulled-down nine rebounds and nabbed four steals.  Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week Shannon Gilly added eight points and 11 pull downs.

York College was led by Deloress Maeweather's 14 points.  Maimouna Dabo followed with 12 points and six rebounds while Niya Jarvis chipped in with seven points, 13 rebounds (game-high), two blocks and two steals.  Chiquita Greene dished out a game-high five assists to go with six rebounds.  Shayna Smith grabbed eight rebounds and recorded two blocks off the bench.

The Green and Ivory connected on 15-of-33 (45.5%) from the field in the second-half, outscoring the Cardinals, 42-22 in the final period.  The Cardinals edged the Panthers in the rebound department, 51-43 and the two teams combined for 56 turnovers.
