WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TOPS BARD COLLEGE, 72-70

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Women's Basketball team won a 72-70 decision at Skyline Conference opponent Bard College on Saturday afternoon.  Old Westbury improves to 10-13 overall and 5-11 in league play while Bard College falls to 10-13 on the season and 4-12 in conference action. 

Old Westbury held a small lead early in the first half until Bard's Blaire Moldenhauer gave her team a 28-27 advantage at the 4:42 mark.  Bard went into half-time, up 34-27.  The two teams traded baskets throughout the second-half and at the 1:09 mark, Shannon Gilly knocked down a jumper to give the Panthers a 69-68 lead.  Rosemary Winter then responded with a jumper of her own to put Bard up 70-69 with 51 seconds on the clock.  Shannon Gilly sank a pair of free-throws to give the Panthers a one point lead and followed on the defensive end with a game saving block on a desperation jumper by Rosemary Winter.  Gilly would connect on 1-of-2 from the free throw line to seal the Panthers 72-70 victory.    

Shameeka Bryan and Pamela Robinson had 15 point and three assists apiece to lead the Panthers.  Bryan totaled eight rebounds while Ashley Freeman added 14 points and five assists.  Krystal Garner tallied 13 points and nine rebounds at the same time as Shannon Gilly had 13 points, six rebounds and two blocks and three assists. 

Bard College was led by Elyse Rivas and Blaire Moldenhauer.  Rivas totaled 23 points and two steals while Moldenhaur had 20 points, 10 rebounds and three steals.  Latiqua Williams chipped in with 14 points, 15 rebounds and six assists in addition to Amy Engleson's nine points and six assists.      

Despite shooting 26-of-66 (39.4%) from the field Old Westbury was able to hang onto the victory, due in part to a 17-12 advantage at the free-throw line.  Old Westbury was edged in the rebound department, 38-37 even with grabbing a 20-16 advantage off the offensive glass.
