Old Westbury, NY - Old Westbury sophomore Whitney Alexander was named the Skyline Conference Women?s Volleyball Player of the Week, it was announced late last night from the league office.
Alexander, who recently transitioned to the outside hitter position, leads the Panthers offensively, and is fifth in the league, averaging 3.08 kills per game. She is also fourth in the Skyline Conference in service aces per game with 0.89. Two of Alexander?s teammates, Jennifer Hoyt and Jennifer Ragone currently rank one and two, respectively, with Hoyt also leading the Nation in that category.
This week, Alexander hit .372 and averaged 4.29 kills and 0.86 service aces, leading Old Westbury to a 3-1 week. In a conference match against St. Joseph?s, she hit .426 (21-1-47) and recorded a double-double with a season-high 21 kills and 10 digs.
Old Westbury is 15-5 on the season, a noteworthy improvement from last season?s 5-10 final record. The Panthers return to action at home tonight, Tuesday, October 11, 2005, when they host New Rochelle in the final home match of the 2005 season. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.
