Farmingdale, NY - Old Westbury held off a late rally by conference rival Farmingdale for a 3-2 victory in tonight?s Skyline Conference match-up. The win puts the Panthers in a tie for fourth place and leaves playoff hopes alive as the season winds down.
The Panthers took a two game lead with 30-24 and 30-20 wins before the Rams countered with back-to-back wins (30-28, 30-27) to force the decisive fifth game.
In game five, the Rams took an early lead, but Old Westbury bounced back and went on to win 15-9.
Jen Ragone (North Massapequa, NY/ Plainedge) finished with 30 assists for the Panthers, while Stacey Dubin (Selden, NY/Newfield) had 23 digs. Whitney Alexander (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker) and Jen Hoyt (Syosset, NY/Syosset) both tallied 11 kills for Old Westbury.
Old Westbury is currently 4-3 in the league, tied with Mount St. Mary. The final spot for the postseason will come down to the wire, as those two teams will end the regular season against one another on November 1 in Newburgh, NY.
The Panthers return to non-conference action on Thursday at Polytechnic.
