                                  2006 Volleyball Season in Review

Hoboken, NJ - The 2006 volleyball season came to an end on Saturday, November 4th , 2006 in the Skyline Conference semifinals. Despite the disappointing end, this years women's volleyball team finished 23-15 overall, the best in school history, as they surpassed last year's record for wins in a single-season with a total of 23 victories. In addition, the Panthers received several All-Conference accolades; senior libero Stacey Dubin (Selden, NY) was named the Co-Defensive Player of the Year and senior middle hitter Jennifer Hoyt (Syosset, NY) and senior setter Jennifer Ragone (North Massapequa, NY) were both named Second Team All-Skyline.

Many other milestones were set in 2006 for Old Westbury. Dubin not only became the first Panther to be named Co-Defensive Player of the Year, she finished her career with 1,000 digs including a single-season record of 664. Totaling 51 digs in a five-game match against St. Joseph's College, she tied for fifth place all time in the NCAA on the Division III level.

Hoyt led the Skyline Conference with a .330 hitting percentage and held a team-high 249 kills. She was named Second Team All-Skyline and during the season earned Player of the Week honors for the week of October 25th. Ragone was also named Second Team All-Skyline and set a new school record with 857 assists in a season, finishing her career with 1,684. Ragone currently stands 7th in the nation in service aces per game, moving up from last year when she finished 8th .

Senior outside hitter Jessica Ratchford (Bronx, NY) finished her career with a school record 1,015 career digs, breaking the 1,000 mark against Mount Saint Mary College on October 31st.  Junior outside hitter Whitney Alexander (Brooklyn, NY) will return next season with a team-high 724 kills in her career. Old Westbury will say goodbye to four other seniors this year, Nihal Boz (Brooklyn, NY), Vanessa Aries (New York, NY), Janera Johnson (Richmond Hill, NY) and Jasmine Hernandez (Bronx, NY).

Coach Marjhana Seagers improved her overall record to 49-34 over her three year tenure. Seagers has led the team to a school record number of wins in each of her three seasons, while also leading the Panthers to the Conference tournament in the past two seasons. Seagers' goal for the program is to continue to improve each year and work towards another appearance in the 2007 Skyline Conference Playoffs.
