Volleyball Beats John Jay, 3-0
Sep 2, 2006

Old Westbury volleyball spoiled John Jay's season opener this afternoon, topping the Bloodhounds in three games (30-28, 30-20, and 30-16). The Panthers improve to 2-0 overall.

In the first match the Bloodhounds, who led most of the way, took a four point lead much as four (6-2) early on. The Panthers bounced back and the game would remain closer for the rest of the way. With game point on the line and the Bloodhounds trailing by just one (29-28), John Jay committed a costly ball handling error to give the Panthers the win.

In the next two matches the Panthers led most of the way, and maintained a double-digit lead for the latter part of the two contests en route to victory.

Whitney Alexander led the Panthers with 12 kills, while Monique Midy followed closely behind with nine. Setter Jennifer Ragone dished out 23 assists in the win for the Panthers.

Sara Altamirano led the way for the Bloodhounds in a losing cause as she recorded nine kills and three service aces.

Old Westbury will return to action tomorrow at the NJAC/Skyline Challenge hosted by Ramapo.
