OLD WESTBURY STAGGERED BY COMPETITION AT ST. JOSEPH'S (LI) INVITATIONAL

OCTOBER 20, 2007

PATCHOGUE, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Women's Volleyball team lost three consecutive contests at the St. Joseph's College (LI) Invitational Saturday afternoon in the Danzi Center. The Panthers lost to non-conference opponents Baruch College 3-1 (23-30, 30-8, 30-21, 30-16), John Jay 3-1 (30-24, 30-22, 13-30, 30-27) and then St. Joseph's College (BK) 3-0 (30-12, 30-10, 30-24). At the conclusion of the St. Joseph's College (LI) Invitational, Old Westbury fell to 10-20 on the season.

The Panthers came out the gate fast in the first game against Baurch before losing three straight games to finish out the match. Whitney Alexander and Monique Midy led Old Westbury on offense with eight kills to go along with one service ace each while Siobhan West and Sheyra Veras dished out 18 assists, respectively. On the defensive end Veras led the Panthers with 22 digs and Lauren Fischetti added 14. West, Alexander and Midy added 10 digs apiece.

Monique Midy and Whitney Alexander led the offensive attack against John Jay, compiling nine kills apiece in addition to seven service aces by Alexander. Sheyra Veras and Siobhan West dished out 11 and 10 assists respectively to go along with 17 digs for West. Lauren Fishchetti tallied 21 digs to lead the Panthers defensive strike while Janera Johnson added three blocks.

Once again, Whitney Alexander and Monique Midy led the Panthers on offense with seven kills apiece. Siobhan West handed out a team-high eight assists while Sheyra Veras added five. On the defensive end, Lauren Fischetti totaled 18 digs and West added 13 while Midy finished with 10 to round out the defense.

The Panthers are back in action on Sunday, October 21^st for a Skyline Conference tri-match at the Clark Athletic Center.
