PANTHERS FALL AGAINST TWO CONFERENCE OPPONENTS

OCTOBER 21, 2007

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Women's Volleyball team succumbed to the prowess of both Mount Saint Mary and Russell Sage College in a Skyline Conference tri-match on Sunday afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center.  The Panthers opened with Mount Saint Mary, falling 3-0 (30-28, 30-22, 30-14) and then concluded with a loss to Russell Sage, 3-0 (30-18, 30-15, 30-19).  Old Westbury moves to 10-21 overall and is now 5-3 in conference play.

Whitney Alexander led the Panthers offensively against Mount Saint Mary with five kills and had a team-high three service aces.  Sheyra Veras led the defensive attack with a match-high 16 digs while Siobhan West amassed a team-high eight assists.  Four players produced double-figure numbers in the dig column, led by Veras' (16 digs) while Janera Johnson posted 11 digs.  Siobhan West and Lauren Fischetti added 10.  Unfortunately, this offensive burst made combined with 11 errors did not help their quest for victory.

Against Russell Sage, Old Westbury was led by Siobhan West and Lauren Fischetti on the defensive end.  West and Fischetti tallied 21 and 14 digs, respectively.  Sheyra Veras added 12 digs to go along with a team-high six assists to go along with four kills. Whitney Alexander led the offensive strike with two service aces and seven kills while Veras and Janera Johnson added four kills apiece.  Despite this solid effort, Old Westbury accumulated 16 errors which devastated their offensive efforts against Russell Sage.

Old Westbury returns to action on Tuesday, October 23rd to play host to Farmingdale State for the Breast Cancer Awareness Game.  First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m. at the Clark Athletic Center.  For more information about the Old Westbury Panthers or to follow your favorite sports and events, log onto http://www.oldwestburypanthers.com/
