- The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's and women's cross
country team competed in the 2009 Skyline Conference Cross Country
Championship in the Bronx. The women's squad finished in
eighth place out of nine teams, while the men took ninth out of
10. The Farmingdale State men and the Bard women took home
the championship crowns from Van Cortland Park on Sunday.
Old Westbury senior Krystal Garner led the Panthers with a
20th place finish, completing the 5k course with a time
of 23:14. Following Garner for the Old Westbury women was
sophomore Angela Dixon (Bronx, NY), who finished in 57th
place with a time of 28:38.20. Freshman Melissa Spleen
(Hempstead, NY), junior Carissa Ellis (Brooklyn, NY) and senior
Avery Josey (Staten Island, NY) rounded out the top five for Old
Westbury recording times of 32:11.40 (65th place),
33:47.50 (67th place) and 36:42.70 (73rd
place).
For the Old Westbury men, freshman TaQuan Gray (Yonkers, NY) was
the first Panther to cross the finish line. Gray completed
the 8k course in a time of 31:48.60 for a 29th place
finish.
Senior Kenneth King (Westbury, NY), sophomore Joshua Wooten
(Jamaica, NY) and junior Nicholous Perdomo (Hempstead, NY) turned
in the second, third and fourth fastest times for the
Panthers. King recorded at time of 32:45.20, Wooten clocked
in with a time of 40:02.70, and Perdomo ran in 40:48.50.Rounding
out the top-five for Old Westbury was junior Ronald Ott (Garden
City Park, NY), arriving in 47:11.30.
