Old Westbury vs. Farmingdale State Boxscore

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury freshman goalkeeper Jonathan Aiola (Plainview, NY) played an impressive game with a career-best 17 stops in net, however the men's soccer team came up short on Wednesday afternoon when it fell, 2-1, to conference rival Farmingdale State in the ECAC Metro Region tournament at Panther Park.  Old Westbury completes its season with a 12-10-1 record after making an appearance as a fourth-seed.

Old Westbury opened the scoring first as freshman Donny Alerte (Brooklyn, NY) score off an assist from senior Fabian Santibanez (Oyster Bay, NY) at the 35:41 mark to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.  Farmingdale State responded 11 seconds later when sophomore Joseph Catanzarite (East Islip, NY) scored off a feed from sophomore Ryan Lang (West Babylon, NY) to knot the game at 1-1 heading into halftime.

Farmingdale State broke through at the 89:16 mark, as junior Alex Mendolia (Smithtown, NY) found the back of the net off a pass from junior Mathew Arthurs (Islip Terrace, NY).

Aiola made 17 saves in net for the Panthers while senior Patrick Gubbins tallied five saves for the Rams.  Farmingdale State went on to outshoot the Panthers by a margin of 29-11 and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Old Westbury senior class of Fabian Santibanez, Conor McKeon (Rockville Centre, NY) and Diego Salas (Glen Cove, NY) graudate as the first class to reach the postseason since 2007, when the team advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history after winning the Skyline Conference Championship.
