PANTHERS FALL TO SAGE 3-0 IN SKYLINE CONFERENCE

- The No. 6-seeded SUNY College at Old Westbury women's
volleyball team could not overcome a -.036 hitting percentage as
the Panthers dropped a 3-0 decision to the third-seeded Sage Gators
in the first round of the Skyline Conference Tournament on
Wednesday evening in Troy. The Panthers finish the season at
16-18 while Sage improves to 12-22 and will face second-seeded St.
Joseph's-L.I. on Saturday. The set scores were 25-10, 25-17
and 25-18.
Junior Tanaya Vinson (Woodside, NY) paced the squad with five
kills on 15 swings to hit .200. Junior Ashley Greene served
up a team-best three aces while sophomore Kristina Giordano
(Huntington Station, NY) added two while handing out 10
assists. Giordano chipped in with four digs and classmate
Tynishia George (Medford, NY) led the Panthers with six digs to go
with four kills.
In the first set, the Panthers came out flat, hitting just -.091
as the Gators hit .267 to win 25-10. The second set was much like
the first, with the Gators holding the Panthers to a .167 hitting
percentage. In the third set, the Panthers hit nine errors, while
the Gators hit six e route to capturing victory with a 25-18
showing.
