Joe Povinelli, a former NCAA Division II second-team All-American, enters his fourth season as Old Westbury assistant baseball coach in 2019.
Povinelli gradated LIU Post with a bachelor’s degree in finance and economics in 1978 following a standout four-year career as a catcher for the Pioneers. In addition to claiming All-America honors in 1977, Povinelli was also selected twice as a New York Metropolitan Collegiate Conference All-Star. As a senior, he held the position as co-captain during the 1978 season.
In his post-collegiate playing days, Povinelli was a four-time (1984, 1986, 1987, 1990) ASA National Championship All-America Fast Pitch Softball selection. Povinelli captured Men's Senior Baseball League (MSBL) World Championships in 2000, 2002, 2007 as a player/assistant coach, and served in the same capacity in 1998 for the Northeast United States Nike World Masters Baseball team.
In 2015, Povinelli retired after a 35-year career as a commercial real estate shopping center executive.
Povinelli resides in nearby Roslyn, New York with his wife Rosemarie, where they raised two children, Tiffany and Lisa Marie. The Povinelli’s recently became grandparents with the birth of Tiffany’s first child, James.
