Lynda Day enters her fifth year as an assistant women's basketball coach at SUNY Old Westbury.
Her primary duties include coordination of recruiting, game scouting, practice and game preparation, game video preparation, opponent film breakdown and assisting the coaching staff in film scouting for upcoming games. Day also coordinates film exchanges with other teams and upcoming opponents and directs the student managers for videotaping of all practices and games played, in addition to other duties assigned. Her wealth of knowledge in all facets of the game has made her one of the rising stars in the business.
Day has proven herself as an excellent recruiter on all different levels. Day arrived at Old Westbury in 2011 after holding the position as varsity assistant coach with the Mary Louis Academy women's basketball program since 2007. From 1999-2005, she coached girls travel teams ages 7-9 and 10-12 for St. Demetrios and also spent her summertime coaching AAU ball with the NYC Heat from 2007-11.
Her collegiate coaching career started on the staff of her alma mater, Queens College, in 2003 as assistant women's basketball coach. In just her first season on the bench at Queens, she guided the team to 17 wins, the most since her sophomore year (2000-01; 15 wins). During the 2005-06 season, she held the title of interim head coach for nine games, posting a 6-3 record during that time.
Day earned her bachelor's degree from Queens College in 2003, where she majored in Sociology and minored in Psychology. During her time at Queens, she was a four-year member of the women's basketball team and served as team captain as a senior. She achieved her master's degree in elementary education from LIU-Post in 2005.
Lynda grew up and currently lives in Astoria, New York, and was a graduate of St. Demetrios Astoria High School. She has worked in elementary and middle school education teaching in Queens for seven years.
