MEN'S SOCCER TOPS MARITME TO MOVE ONTO CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

NOVEMBER 1, 2007

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Men's Soccer team advanced to the Skyline Conference Championship game after defeating Maritime College, 5-0, in the Semifinal round on Thursday at Panther Park.  Old Westbury improves to 11-3-1 on the season while Maritime drops to 13-8.

Justin Leakey got the ball rolling for the Panthers in the second minute of action with a little help from classmate Kimron Annikie.  Annikie sent a pass to Leakey who tapped it into the back of the net beyond the reach of Maritime goalkeeper Matthew Kavanaugh to give Old Westbury the 1-0 lead.  Moments later in the 9th minute, Leakey posted his second goal of the game off a pass by Shawn Holland and John Senatore to give the Panthers a two goal advantage.  John Senatore netted a goal at the 11:50 mark off a feed by Jorge Roman to give Old Westbury a three goal cushion.  At the 46:13 mark, Erik Velasquez set up John Senatore for the score off a perfect feed that was buried into the back of the net, giving the Panthers a 4-0 lead.  Justin Leakey capped off the game with a third goal at the 71:56 mark with a little help from Divine Jackson to give the Panthers a 5-0 lead.  That would remain the score for the remainder of the game, sending Old Westbury to the Conference Championship to face St. Joseph's College (LI).

Brandon DeNoyer tallied eight saves to spearhead the feisty Panther defense to a shut out victory.

Old Westbury moves on to the championship game on Saturday, November 3rd at St. Joseph's College (LI).  Game time is slated for 1:00 pm.  For more information about the Old Westbury Panthers or to follow your favorite sports and events, log onto http://www.oldwestburypanthers.com/
