DECEMBER 29, 2007

SYDNEY, VA.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Men's Basketball team was unable to come away with a non-conference win on the road at the Hampden-Sydney Holiday Hoops Tournament.  Host, Hampden-Sydney College stamped their own ticket to the championship game, defeating the Panthers on day one, 80-70.  Old Westbury drops to 4-6 on the season while Hampden-Sydney improves to 3-1.

A trio of Panthers registered in the double-digit point column, led by Kenneth Eusey's 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc and three steals in 23 minutes.  Lester Prosper posted a double-double in 25 minutes of action, tallying 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor to go with 10 pull downs.  Garthlette James rounded out the trio with 15 points.  Brandon Mays recorded eights points off the bench including 4-of-4 from the field while Eddie Hood added seven points and a team-high three assists.

Turner King led the way for Hampden-Sydney, pouring in a game-high 20 points on 6-of-9 shooting from three-point territory.  King finished with four rebounds, three assists and two blocks while Troy Kaase contributed 14 points and two blocks.  Bryon Lawton (6 assists) and Drew Prehmus (4 rebounds) added 11 points apiece and Paul Matthews totaled 10 points on 3-of-3 from downtown.

Old Westbury could not keep pace with Hampden-Sydney in the shooting department.  The Tigers shot 57.4% from the field and 12-for-21 (57.1) from three-point land while the Panthers shot 27-for-61 (44.3%) from the floor and 6-for-18 (33.3%) from outside the arc.  The Green and Ivory out-rebounded Hampden-Sydney by one, 30-29 including 12 boards on the offensive end while forcing 16 Tiger turnovers.
