FARMINGDALE, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team ended their 2008 season with a 2-0 loss to Farmingdale State in the semi-final round of the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament on Thursday afternoon in Farmingdale.  The loss moves Old Westbury to 9-8 on the season while Farmingdale State improves to 12-6-1 on the year to advance to the Championship game on Saturday afternoon against the winner of Mount Saint Mary College and St. Joseph's College-L.I.

The teams played to a scoreless first half until Ryan Paul and Alex Mendolia sent a ball to Ryan Lang, who settled the pass and lifted it over the outstretched arms of Old Westbury's sophomore keeper Darian Bryan (Elmont, N.Y.) for the score at the 43:06 mark.   Farmingdale State doubled their advantage at the 77:22 mark when Frank Volante fired the ball into the back of the net, catching Old Westbury keeper, Darian Bryan off his line to give the Rams a commanding two goal lead.  Farmingdale State defended well for the rest of the match to come away with the 2-0 victory to end Old Westbury's chances of repeating as Skyline Conference Champions.

The Panthers were outshot 25-9, while Farmingdale State finished with a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.  Junior Fabian Santibanez (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) registered two shots on goal, while senior John Senatore (Ridge, N.Y.) and freshman Timothy Munzing (Oceanside, N.Y.) finished the night with two shots as three other Panthers added single attempts.

Between Farmingdale State's pipes, Patrick Gubbins was stellar in goal, tallying two saves to notch the shutout while Darian Bryan made a match-high seven saves in 90 minutes for Old Westbury.

The Green and Ivory will look to compete in the ECAC Metro Region Championship Tournament that takes place on November 12th, 15th and 16th.  Please visit www.oldwestburypanthers.com for more information on men's soccer or any of the other Panther athletic teams.
