OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old
Westbury Softball team split a double-header with Purchase College
on Sunday afternoon at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
Old Westbury lost the first game, 4-1 and bounced back to knock off
Purchase College, 9-5 in the series finale. Old Westbury
moves to 7-7 overall and 1-3 in league play while Purchase College
climbs to 5-10 on the season and 3-3 in Skyline Conference action.
Green and Ivory at the plate (Game 1): Jessica
Stoddard led the Panthers with a double and scored the lone
run. Stoddard hit 1-for-3 and swept one base while Deborah
Ciccarelli (1-for-3) and Crystal Rodriguez (1-for-2) each singled.
Purchase College at
the plate (Game 1): Jessie Domes (2-for-3) was one of four
Panthers to record multiple hits in the victory. Jessie Domes
included two singles, two runs batted in and one score while
Melissa Schlobohm (2-for-3) hit a couple of singles and scored two
runs. Emily Stanley (2-for-4) and Patricia Orellana (2-for-4)
each hit a single and a double, while Stanley included one run
batted in.
Green and Ivory on the mound (Game 1): Deborah
Ciccarelli (4-7) pitched a complete game in which she allowed four
runs (3 earned) on 10 hits. Ciccarelli rang up four on
strikes and walked one.
Purchase College on
the mound (Game 1): Emily Stanley tossed a complete game
and allowed one earned run on three hits. Stanley struck out
seven Panthers and handed out four free passes.
Game notes (Game 1): Old Westbury was out-hit,
10-3, including 2-1 in the extra base hit department. On the
base path, Old Westbury stole two bases and stranded seven while
Purchase had one stolen base and left eight on base. In the
field, Old Westbury committed five errors and Purchase College had
one. On the mound, Old Westbury struck out four and walked
one while Purchase College struck out seven and walked four.
Green and Ivory at the plate (Game 2): Old
Westbury's one through four hitters combined to hit 8-for-13
with nine runs batted in and eight scores, led by Maria Canino
(2-for-4). Canino clubbed two big flies over the left field
fence along with driving in six Panthers and scored three
times. Deborah Ciccarelli (3-for-4) doubled home Canino in
the sixth inning, and finished with two runs batted in.
Jessica Stoddard (1-for-2) had three scores and drove in one run
while Ashley Esposito (2-for-3) hit a pair of singles and scored
two runs before swiping two bases. Crystal Rodriguez hit
2-for-3 and stole one base.
Purchase College at
the plate (Game 2): Kiersten Morsanutto (2-for-4) and
Allison Hantman (2-for-4) each hit a pair of singles to lead
Purchase. Morsanutto drove in two runs and scored one while
Hantman drove in one run. Emily Stanley (1-for-3) scored two
runs and doubled home one run as Myrrah Dubey (1-for-4) and
Patricia Orellana (1-for-2) each scored one run.
Green and Ivory on the mound (Game 2): Deborah
Ciccarelli (5-7) threw a complete game and allowed five runs (3
earned) off eight hits to pace the Panthers to victory.
Ciccarelli struck out four and walked four.
Purchase College on
the mound (Game 2): Emily Stanley pitched three innings
and was hit for five earned runs on seven hits. Stanley
walked three before Patricia Orellana came in for relief work for
the final three innings. Orellana surrendered four runs (3
earned) on four hits while striking out two and walking two.
Game notes (Game 2): Old Westbury out-hit
Purchase College, 11-8 including a 3-2 advantage in the extra base
hit department. On the base path, Old Westbury stole four
bases and left eight on base while Purchase College stole one base
and stranded eight on base. On the defensive front, Old
Westbury and Purchase College both committed three errors
apiece. On the mound, Old Westbury struck out four and walked
four as Purchase College struck out two and walked five.
Old Westbury returns to the diamond on Wednesday, April
9th to host non-conference opponent, Briarcliffe
College. First pitch of the double-header is slated for 3:30
