SALEM, VA.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury
Men's Soccer team opened up their 2008 campaign with a
disheartening 4-0 loss to Roanoke College on the first day of the
Roanoke Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Salem,
Virginia. 
Old Westbury hung tough with the Maroons through the opening 45
minutes, trailing 1-0 at the end of the first half, despite Michael
Walter netting the eventual game winner in the 10th
minute to improve Roanoke to 1-0 on the season.  Roanoke
struck again in the second half in the 51st minute on a
goal by Chris Collins followed by a Kayvon Sarmadi strike to the
back of the net in the 63rd minute to put the game out
of reach for the Panthers.  Roanoke scored their fourth and
final goal in the 73rd minute on a breakaway score by
Taylor Johnston, complements of Shaman Douglass.
Darian Bryan patrolled the net and finished with six saves for
the Panthers while Adam Thompson had one save to earn the win for
Roanoke College.
The Green and Ivory were shutout after being held to four shots,
including one on goal (Jorge Roman).  The Panther defense
allowed the Maroons 23 shots, with 10 on goal.   
Old Westbury (0-1) will look to bounce back tomorrow as they
take on Bridgewater College (Va.) (0-1) at noon on day two of the
Roanoke Invitational.  For more information about the Old
