SALEM, VA.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Men's Soccer team opened up their 2008 campaign with a disheartening 4-0 loss to Roanoke College on the first day of the Roanoke Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Salem, Virginia.

Old Westbury hung tough with the Maroons through the opening 45 minutes, trailing 1-0 at the end of the first half, despite Michael Walter netting the eventual game winner in the 10th minute to improve Roanoke to 1-0 on the season.  Roanoke struck again in the second half in the 51st minute on a goal by Chris Collins followed by a Kayvon Sarmadi strike to the back of the net in the 63rd minute to put the game out of reach for the Panthers.  Roanoke scored their fourth and final goal in the 73rd minute on a breakaway score by Taylor Johnston, complements of Shaman Douglass.

Darian Bryan patrolled the net and finished with six saves for the Panthers while Adam Thompson had one save to earn the win for Roanoke College.

The Green and Ivory were shutout after being held to four shots, including one on goal (Jorge Roman).  The Panther defense allowed the Maroons 23 shots, with 10 on goal.
