Boxscore

SALEM, VA.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Men's Soccer team notched their first win in the 2008 campaign with a 2-1 overtime victory over non-conference opponent, Bridgewater College (Va.) at the Roanoke Invitational on Sunday afternoon.  Old Westbury evens out to 1-1 on the young season while Bridgewater (Va.) falls to 1-1.

The first half was all about defenses, as neither team could notch a goal, with Bridgewater (Va.) totaling nine shots on goal while Old Westbury had four.  It wasn't until the second half when the Eagles broke into a scoreless game in the 65th minute as Matt Thomas scored on a breakaway pass from Chris Thomas, past OW keeper, Darian Bryan.  Bryan held Bridgewater (Va.) hostage for the final 40 minutes with the help of Justin Leakey and George Villalta to earn the win.

After being held scoreless for the first 168 minutes of the season, Justin Leakey broke the streak for the Panthers by netting the first goal of the 2008 season.  Fabian Santibanez found Leakey in the 78th minute, who then dribbled around two Eagles to uncork a lightning bolt to the top left corner for the score past goalie Zane Lineberry.

It wasn't until overtime when George Villalta booted up the field and stuck the shot in the back of the net, knowing that he just won the game for the Panthers.  His goal came in the 100th minute to lift the Panthers to victory.

Old Westbury tallied five shots on goal, led by Justin Leakey, who had two, followed by George Villalta, Ragi Burton and Fabian Santibanez who each had one.  Bridgewater (Va.) had four shots on goal with Ivan Barasic, Shane O'Donnell, Matt Thomas and Chris Hulse each contributing one apiece.  Darian Bryan and Zane Lineberry drew even in the saves department with three stops each.

The Green and Ivory return to action on Wednesday, September 3rd for their home opener to face off against former Skyline Conference opponent, U.S.M.M.A. at Panther Park.  Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.  To follow your favorite sports, check upcoming events, or to find out more information about the Old Westbury Panthers check out http://www.oldwestburypanthers.com.
