MEN'S SOCCER SERVES CULINARY INSTITUTE, 5-1

NEWBURGH, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team handled their business on day one at the Mount Saint Mary College Invitational after defeating Culinary Institute 5-1 on Saturday afternoon.  Sophomore Daniel Lepe (Hempstead, N.Y.) powered Old Westbury to victory after netting a pair of goals.

Old Westbury and Culinary Institute each had its chances to score throughout the first half, but neither could break the deadlock for the first 45 minutes despite the Panthers posting 14 shots.  Old Westbury wasted little time scoring after halftime. In the opening minutes of the second half, Daniel Lepe fired a shot from the top of the box that landed just inside the right post to score his first collegiate goal in the 49th minute. Culinary Institute scored its only goal of the day when Rob Rubino answered at the 55:44 mark on a pass from teammate Austin Assdorian, positioning himself for a breakaway goal to knot the game at one.  Senior Jorge Roman (Yonkers, N.Y.) responded in the 69th minute on a corner kick from 35 yards out that sailed over the outstretched arms of keeper Chris Miller for the game winning goal.  Over the final 21 minutes Old Westbury went on an offense outburst scoring three goals.  Daniel Lepe put home his second goal with a strike from the top of the box that landed in the upper left corner of the goal after receiving a pass from sophomore Justin Leakey (Baldwin, N.Y.).  Junior Fabian Santibanez (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) scored at the 88:21 mark from inside the box followed by a goal from junior Conor McKeon (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) with three seconds left from near midfield to put the Panthers ahead 5-1. 

Sophomore keeper Darian Bryan (Elmont, N.Y.) was a force in net for the Panthers, totaling three saves in the victory.  Bryan surrendered his first goal in 134 minutes when Rob Rubino beat him for the breakaway score at the 55:49 mark.  Chris Miller had 11 stops in goal for Culinary Institute despite allowing five tallies. 

Old Westbury dominated Culinary Institute in almost every facet on Saturday, out shooting its opponent 36-6 to go along with a 16-4 advantage in the shots on goal department in addition to topping their opponents 13-2 in corner kicks.
