OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old
Westbury women's soccer team notched their first home win in
program history with a 3-1 victory over Skyline Conference
opponent, Purchase College on Wednesday evening at Panther
Park. Old Westbury improves to 2-2 on the season and 2-1 in
league play while Purchase College falls to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in
conference action.
Freshman Cassandra Esposito (Valley Stream, N.Y.) proved why she
was awarded the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday by
netting a breakaway goal on a pass from freshman Alexa Marcellino
(Valley Stream, N.Y.) at the 13:00 mark, giving the Panthers a 1-0
cushion. Esposito claimed bragging rights for the first Old
Westbury women's soccer goal at Panther Park. Junior Jennifer Campisi (Commack, N.Y.) followed with a goal of her own in the
22nd minute on a free kick that landed just out of the
reach of Purchase College goalkeeper Stephanie Janasiewicz, giving
the Panthers a 2-0 lead. Campisi fired a laser at the 59:54
mark on another free kick that went past the outstretched arms of
Janasiewicz to put Old Westbury up 3-0. Ashley Panepinto
responded with a score in the 86th minute on a pass by
Becky Moore to net their lone score of the match.
Sophomore goalkeeper Deborah Ciccarelli (St. James, N.Y.) was a
force in the net for the Panthers, totaling a career-high 13 saves
in the victory. Stephanie Janasiewicz had two stops in goal
for Purchase College while allowing three tallies.
Despite claiming victory, Old Westbury was out-shot 23-7 and was
edged, 14-5 in the shots on goal department. Cassandra Esposito fired three shots on goal while Jennifer Campisi had two.
The Green and Ivory will be back on the pitch on Saturday when
they travel to Bard College for a Skyline Conference
showdown. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. Please visit
