THROGS NECK, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old
Westbury women's soccer team captured their third win of the season
with a 3-0 victory over conference opponent Maritime College,
Wednesday evening at Reinhart Field. Old Westbury claims sole
possession of first place to improve to 3-2 in league play and 3-3
on the season while Maritime College falls to 0-1 in conference
action and 1-7 overall.
Old Westbury was relentless in its attack from the first
whistle, as freshman Cassandra Esposito (Valley Stream, N.Y.)
scored the game-winner on a breakaway just 12 minutes into the
match. Esposito ensured the Panthers victory at the 48:22
mark when she netted a score off a rebound to put Old Westbury up
2-0. It wasn't until the 51:09 mark when Esposito scored her
third goal of the game on a breakaway goal that landed past the
outstretched arms of Maritime keeper Alicia Schmidt for the score.
Overall the Panthers out shot Maritime College 13-7 and had a
1-0 corner kick advantage. Sophomore keeper Deborah
Ciccarelli (St. James, N.Y.) made four saves for Old Westbury to
pick up her second shut out of the season, while Maritime keeper
Alicia Schmidt made two saves and allowed three goals for Maritime.
The Green and Ivory will be back on the pitch on Sunday,
September 28th when they welcome conference rival St.
Joseph's College-L.I. to Panther Park. Kickoff is slated for
