NEW YORK, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury
women's volleyball team split a non-conference tri-match at John
Jay College on Saturday afternoon. Old Westbury lost three
consecutive game (25-13, 25-16, 25-9) to New Jersey City University
in their opening match and followed with a 3-1 (25-7, 13-25, 25-14,
25-16) victory over host, John Jay College. Old Westbury
moves to 4-16 on the season.
Sophomore Siobhan West (Flushing, N.Y.) led the offense against
New Jersey City with 10 assists and two aces while junior L'oreal Ellington (East Moriches, N.Y.) and freshman Tynisha George
(Medford, N.Y.) added five kills apiece. West led the
defensive attack with six digs at the same time as freshman Serena McGrath (Montgomery, N.Y.) added five.
Siobhan West paced Old Westbury to victory over John Jay College
with a triple-double performance (16 assist, 11 digs, 10 aces)
while Tynisha George smashed nine kills to hit .316 on 19 swings to
go along with 14 digs and one block. Freshman Debra DePalma
(New Windsor, N.Y.) had 10 assists, five digs and four aces while
freshman Tonya Miller (Nyack, N.Y.) drilled five kills and
registered two blocks. L'oreal Ellington chipped in with
seven kills and four digs.
The Green and Ivory return to action on Saturday, October
4th at the Hartwick College Tournament. First
