HACKETTSTOWN, N.J.-The SUNY
College at Old Westbury Women's Soccer team made history on the
road when Cassandra Esposito's goal at the 44:32 mark against
Centenary College is one that will forever have a place in Panther
soccer history. The goal from inside the box was the first in the
program's young history that closed out their first period of
play.
The Panthers let up five first half goals in the opening 18
minutes of play to fall into a 5-0 deficit. Freshman
Cassandra Esposito jumped on the first opportunity to stamp her
name in the record books by beating two defenders to score
following a long run from the midfield line. Melissa Romero
tallied three saves in the first period before Keisha Carter added
three stops in the second period.
Centenary goalkeeper's Ashley Denti and Allie Strell managed one
save on the only shot-on-goal the Panthers could assemble in 90
minutes. Centenary's Brittany Overland recorded her first
collegiate hat trick. Caitlin Veverka netted two more goals,
compliments from Kiti Ovaskainen and Danielle Dole. Centenary
added four more tallies in the second period, as four different
Cyclones, Sam Vanni, Jen Dexter, Bianca Santulli and Lisa
Stankiewicz all scored.
After losing to former Skyline Conference opponent, Centenary
College, the Green and Ivory will focus their attention to
conference play on Saturday, September 6th to welcome
St. Joseph's-L.I. to Panther Park for their home opener. Game
time is slated for 1:00 p.m. To follow your favorite sports,
