SEPTEMBER 3, 2008

Boxscore

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The Panthers home opener was not one to remember. Hosting the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Panther Park, the SUNY College at Old Westbury's men's soccer team fell by the score of 8-0. With the loss, Old Westbury falls to 1-2, and the win improves the Mariners' record to 2-1.

Justin Leakey led the offense with five shots with two of those on goal. Fabian Santibanez had three shots and barely missed a goal multiple times on direct kicks. However, the Panthers displayed a different mentality after a tough first half. The Green and Ivory's offense came to life, doubling its output of shots in the second half, and missed at least one goal by only inches.

As for the Mariners, Rusty Denson and Chris Flanagan scored two goals, and Lane Gould, Clint Foster, Phillip Dreher, and Greg Planetta each added a goal a pieced. Substitute Brad Silveira led the team with three assists. Ryan Hadley chipped in with two, and Hollis Irvine, Kyle Luetjen, Denson, and Flanagan each contributed one.

Old Westbury is back in action next Wednesday, September 10th on the road at Skyline Conference opponent, Yeshiva University. The game time is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start, and is the start of the Panther's 2008 Skyline Conference campaign.   For more information about the Old Westbury Panthers, or to follow your favorite Panther sports and events, log onto http://www.oldwestburypanthers.com/.
