OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old
Westbury women's volleyball team opened the Panther Invitational
with a sweep over Brooklyn College, 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-11),
giving them their first win in the 2008 campaign. Old
Westbury then fell to former Skyline Conference opponent, Centenary
College, 3-2 (13-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-18, 13-15) and concluded the
day with a record of 1-6.
The Panthers, who claimed their first victory of the season
against Brooklyn College, were paced by Siobhan West's 13 assists
and five service aces. Jessica Pozo led Old Westbury with 11
digs while Tynisha George and Serena McGrath followed with nine and
eight, respectively.
In a tough defeat to Centenary in a five game set, Old Westbury
was led by Tynisha George and Siobhan West. George posted a
double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs and Siobhan West dished out
20 assists. Danielle DeVaul served up a match-high five
service aces and Serena McGrath added four to go along with a
team-high 18 digs while Jessica Pozo followed with 14 on the
defensive front.
Old Westbury will return to action on Sunday, September
7th for day two of the Panther Invitational. The
Green and Ivory will open their conference schedule with Mount
Saint Vincent College at 10:00 a.m. and conclude the day with
Farmingdale State at 2:00 p.m. To follow your favorite
